A Struggle for Justice Amid Systemic Failures
From Rental Disputes to Violent Attacks, a Resident Uncovers Deep-Seated Issues
A long-term visitor to Mexico has faced a troubling series of incidents in Querétaro, shedding light on systemic issues within local governance and law enforcement.
The issues began in January 2023 when the individual attempted to pay rent for the apartment shared with friends. However, the landlord refused to provide bank details, preventing payment. Notably, between January and July, no rent was paid, and the landlord did not demand payment.
In July, the individual was accused of animal abuse following a public campaign led by an animal activist. Despite investigations finding no evidence of abuse, the individual’s dogs were taken for further examination, tarnishing their reputation.
The situation worsened in October when a protest was organized near the individual’s home. The protest turned violent, with eggs thrown at the building, graffiti, and even a fire. The damage totaled at least 50,000 pesos. Later that month, the landlord, allegedly under the influence of cocaine, physically assaulted the individual and their roommate, destroying the apartment in the process.
Throughout these events, the individual sought justice through official channels. The landlord’s tax evasion was reported to the SAT (Mexico’s Tax Administration Service), which uncovered a large-scale fraud scheme involving rental properties. However, attempts to file complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Comptroller’s Office were met with delays, misinformation, and signs of corruption.

Efforts to seek help from the German Consul proved unproductive. Appeals to human rights organizations were similarly unsuccessful, with fake offices, misleading communications, and even a virus that destroyed the individual’s computer and router.
This story highlights deep systemic issues in Querétaro, including corruption, inefficiency, and the exploitation of public institutions. Despite the challenges, the individual remains committed to resolving the matter professionally and discreetly, emphasizing accountability and reform.
